Aortic Disease Program

Aortic disease often goes unnoticed for too long. When discovered, it may require immediate attention by skilled specialists. The Temple Aortic Disease Program offers new endovascular therapies and traditional surgical options to patients with potentially life-threatening aortic conditions—including high-risk patients who might not otherwise qualify for treatment.

Complex Diagnosis & Treatment

Because the aorta channels all of the blood coming from the heart at high pressure, maintaining its structural integrity is paramount. Smaller aortic aneurysms or dissections may be managed with careful monitoring. If intervention is required, our cardiovascular and vascular surgeons use leading-edge techniques for supporting or replacing portions of the aorta that are weak or damaged. We also perform complex repairs of the aortic valve and aortic root, where the aorta joins the heart.

Reducing the Risk for Patients with Aortic Valve Disease

Aortic disease tends to be found through routine or risk-based screening. Because these conditions are best treated before they become symptomatic, patients should have the benefit of an experienced interdisciplinary team like Temple’s to evaluate and follow up on findings.

The Temple Aortic Disease Program focuses on improving patient quality of life and minimizing side effects. Our surgeons are authorities on many of the newest treatment procedures. We use minimally invasive endovascular techniques for 85 to 90 percent of aortic procedures at Temple, which may reduce blood loss and lead to a faster recovery time.
