Heart Disease Prevention

Prevention is still the best weapon in the fight against heart disease. Temple Heart Center considers educating patients early in the disease process a priority in managing their care.

The Lipid Center

The Lipid Center offers an expert, comprehensive set of preventive heart care services and physicians at one site. The program is designed to evaluate an individual’s cardiovascular risk factors, identify targets to lower risk and to treat hypertension, lipidemia and diabetes. Our team includes a cardiologist, endocrinologist, dietitian, pharmacist, exercise specialists and nurses dedicated to heart health education and treatment.

Temple University Hospital’s Women’s Heart Care Program was created to address the unique issues facing women and cardiovascular disease management. With a primary goal of prevention and education, the program provides comprehensive cardiac care by:

  • Early detection and treatment of women at high-risk for the development of heart disease
  • Delivery of cardiovascular services to women with established cardiovascular disease and the maintenance of treatment continuity and follow-up
  • Educating patients and healthcare providers on the unique issues related to the care of women with cardiovascular disease

The Future of Cardiac Care

Temple’s new Telemedicine Research Center is pioneering an Internet-based communication system that provides patients more contact with their physicians in the convenience of home. Even patients with minimal experience with technology can be easily trained to use this system and communicate information by entering it into a simple electronic form and sending it to their physician on a regular basis.

This system strengthens the patient-provider relationship, which is the key to controlling cardiovascular risk. Physicians receive more feedback, and can customize education and adjustments to patients’ medications and activities to maximize success of treatment.
